Our Mission

Providing the business professional and organization with relevant, candid and effective coaching, mentoring and consulting to acquire the knowledge and understanding necessary to make right judgments, improve performance and achieve success through ethical choices…

. . . . .

We know that in order to be successful business professionals, we must continually improve our natural human talents, develop our professional skills, and grow and nurture our professional networks.

But, true success and fulfillment requires that we also develop and practice the higher kinds of human excellence—including: honor, integrity, loyalty, perseverance, dependability, caring and compassion.

The practice of virtue ethics in the workplace and professional life is critical to the success of both the individual and the organization.

Whether you are in need of individual coaching, mentoring, or consulting for your organization, I can help you reach your potential through the practice of virtue and ethical decision-making.

— Michael Bickerstaff, President

Today’s business professionals live in a time and place that presents unique opportunities for growth and success. Achieving success while remaining true to one’s moral and ethical standards is among the most urgent challenges faced by both employees and employers.

Ethics is defined as, “Moral principles that govern a person’s or group’s behavior…” (Oxford English Dictionary). Most of us want to do the right thing, but sometimes take decisions and actions without properly evaluating the moral dimension of what we do.

We know that in order to be successful business professionals, we must continually improve our natural human talents, develop our professional skills and grow and nurture our professional networks. But, in order to truly attain success and fulfillment, we must also develop and practice the higher human virtues, grounded in our moral beliefs. True success cannot be realized in the absence of honor, integrity, compassion, and dependability.

This requires:

  • Knowing the moral and ethical principles that should guide you.
  • Knowing how these principles generally fit into your work both strategically and tactically.
  • Understanding your Company’s Values and the human virtues that support them.
  • Practicing moral and ethical decision making on a continual basis.

There is a growing, profound awareness among today’s business professionals that they have a responsibility to choose and do the right thing in their business life. There is also a realization that we are sometimes unequipped to make these choices; a realization that we need guidance along the way.

The mission of Virtue@Work is to provide the business professional or organization with relevant and candid coaching, mentoring or consulting to acquire the knowledge and understanding necessary to make right judgments, improve performance and achieve success through ethical choices…
